About TLI > Terminology

Since people often use terms in different ways, we believe it is helpful to precisely define the terms we use on our Website and in our programs.

Technology. Technology is the capability to create products and services. It involves knowledge (people), processes, equipment, and tools. Technology is not a product or products (as often assumed).

Technology Management. Technology management is the management of organizations that create economic or other value through technology.

Technological Leadership. Technological leadership relates to three levels:

  1. At the organization level, it represents an enterprise that achieved a position of leadership in its industry, through excellence in technology management.

  2. At the individual level, it represents a person who is effectively leading the linkage between technology and business and is an outstanding leader of technical people.

  3. At the national level, it represents a nation that established dominance based on technology

Innovation. Innovation is the commercialization of an idea. Not every new idea ends up being an innovation. Innovation is therefore, both a product and a process.

Technological innovation is an innovation that is based on technology

Linkage between Innovation and projects. The innovation process starts with an idea and ends with a successful product. This process includes many steps and is described in various models. However, a great part of this process is dedicated to what is typically called a project. While innovation management and project management are often considered separate disciplines, in the enterprise world they are treated as one activity. We therefore believe in the inseparable link between innovation and project management.

Project. A project is an organizational effort to introduce change.
